Great work this past two weeks -- as of tomorrow, we will have about 10 hours of raw content that we've collectively generated just through our initial listening sessions alone! Be sure you're reviewing not just your team's work but that of other teams -- check out the #1-channel in Slack for the latest on where team notes are stored.
A few announcements and things to keep in mind as we wrap-up Module 01:
Discovery and Research does not end here. While we are turning to Module 02 on Wednesday with our second workshop, the act of listening, discovery, and research should be concurrent with the remainder of the lab. In fact, we'll have a chance to follow-up with your team's interviewees during Module 02 in small group listening sessions. If you haven't had a chance to sign-up for these, connect with your Team Lead.
Embrace the ambiguity (even -- especially -- when it's hard). A quick gentle note of caution as you get ready for Module 2 this week: While there may be an urge to solve something right now, especially if you've heard about something really troubling that was brought up during a listening session, do your best to not move to generating ideas or coming up with solutions quite yet. For some of you, this may really be hard! So now is the time to practice the mindset of embracing ambiguity. You may not be sure where your team is headed yet, and that's okay! We'll be talking this coming Wednesday about moving forward in the process based on what you've observed, listened, researched, discovered during Module 01.
What can you do?
Catch up on other listening sessions. For now (until Wednesday), your focus should still be on listening and taking in what you have heard. For example, listen to each other's sessions and check out the notes from other teams. Also, make sure you are reflecting upon what you may have noticed, what surprised you, what stood out to you -- especially if it is a repeating pattern.
Take note of what you've heard and learned so far. Take the time this week to synthesize a list of memorable quotes or stories that stood out from your listening sessions, which can inform the connections and insights, almost like "data points." These will be really useful for Module 2!
What to look forward to during Module 2: Over the next two weeks, you will get the chance to work with affinity maps and other blueprint tools to connect your data-point-dots, craft insights, and draft provocations that can then prompt really powerfully informed ideas.
To prepare for Workshop #2:
Register for the second all-lab workshop on Wednesday, 5/20 at 5:30 pm. You must register to receive your personal link to the workshop -- the Zoom info will be e-mailed directly to you. Click here to register for Workshop #2.
Create a MURAL account and start exploring. This is a free collaboration tool that we'll be using during Workshop #2. This tool could also be of great help in the future (hint hint: the Impactathon!)
Install Google Chrome (MURAL works best with Chrome, so please use this as you may be needing to create your own MURAL board in the near future!)
Create a free MURAL account here: https://www.mural.co/
Take a moment to update your profile name and picture so we can see who is who when we all log-in together on Wednesday
There are several free tutorials available via MURAL but the best way to explore is to create a MURAL space and get things messy.
Looking forward to seeing you all via Zoom soon!
